2022.01.20 04:07 mopthetop My anti work daily routine at work

After years of feeling completely defeated by work, I finally had a mental breakdown when things in my personal life got bad too. Long story short, I basically lost everything and completely started over. As a result, I feel like I have nothing left to lose (except my time) and I’m finding it’s quite liberating.
I found a job that I give zero fucks about. The pay is shit, the benefits are unaffordable, and corporate couldn’t care less about me. In turn, I put in the appropriate amount of effort for my valuable (and finite) time.
I get to work bright and early at 5am. I clock in, make a cup of coffee, then go sit in my car, play on my phone, and smoke weed until 8am.
Feeling like I’m ready to tackle the tasks for the day, I roll up my sleeves, pulI myself up by my bootstraps, and get working until 8:30am. At that point I clock out for my 30 minute lunch break and go to the kitchen to eat until about 9am.
Following breakfast, I clock back in, go out to my car, and smoke again until 10am. After that I go back in and do the minimum amount of work I can do until 1pm. Not 1:05. Not 1:30. Exactly 1 o’clock.
I don’t know how long I can keep this up, but it’s an amazing feeling to have zero work stress and a job I can walk away from at any moment and not care. I’ve been through a lot the last few years and I feel better than I have in a long time.
I recently found this sub and I’m genuinely excited there are others out there who are as fed up with the status quo as I am. Suddenly I don’t feel so alone.

2022.01.20 04:07 zzyingg Special Consideration

I submitted a Special Consideration application last December to request for a second replacement exam for two of my units (I wasn't able to sit for the replacement exams due to extenuating circumstances). I received an approval for a second replacement exam for one of my units last week, but the status of my other unit is still 'In Progress'.
Can someone just confirm that if the status of an application is 'In Progress', the application has been sent to the relevant Faculty/Unit of Study Coordinator for approval?
I've tried contacting the unit of study coordinator but she has not yet responded. The second replacement exam period is next week and it's almost the end of the week already. Is there anyone else I could contact at this point to ensure that my application is reviewed before then? I just want to know the outcome of my application.

2022.01.20 04:07 sonnytron I don't recommend toilet paper or bidets: they're bad for the environment and we didn't always have them

Did we need toilet paper as hunters and gatherers? No.
Did we need a toilet rod to squirt water in our anus when we were fighting velociraptors millions of years ago? No.
But you know what we do need? Sewage treatment plants, water purification systems and waste management facilities.
Fuck you, Charmin'. It's a racket.

2022.01.20 04:07 Veidt_Enterprises We would never see it coming and while the entire planet wouldn't, technically speaking, be destroyed, it would become entirely uninhabitable to humans in the span of a few seconds.

(tl/dr at bottom)
A "kinetic weapon" may sound like fancy-pants, sci-fi shit, but the idea is as simple as the concept of "weapon" can be. Pick up a hard object and throw it. Congratulations, you used a kinetic weapon.
"Kinetic" in this case, refers to the energy; kinetic energy being the energy of motion. A rock held high on a cliff has potential energy, when it falls that potential energy is converted into kinetic energy, and then all of that energy (minus what was lost to drag/air friction) is delivered into, well, whatever it hits.
The advantage for destructiveness is this thing you may have heard of called "conservation of energy". Even in an atmosphere, a projectile arrives at its target with nearly all the energy it left with, but in space, it loses nothing. You could fire a bullet across the galaxy and it would still be travelling the same speed when it got there.
Where this starts getting extra crazy is when you bring in Einstein's e=mc2 (hang on, I promise this isn't too complicated). Basically, energy contributes to an objects overall mass. For your normal everyday life, the difference is absolutely unnoticeable. But an object going really fast, like toward the speed of light fast, this difference becomes immense.
This is part of why objects with mass can't go faster than the speed of light, they literally become heavier and harder to keep accelerating. And "heavier and harder to accelerate" means specifically that you need EVEN MORE ENERGY to make it go faster. For the purposes of a weapon, this a massive advantage. This means even a small object, accelerated to a high enough speed, can have a huge mass and carry an insane amount of energy simply by going fast, and remember, this energy won't be lost or destroyed in transit. Whatever it hits, it will hit with ALL the energy it left with.
(tl/dr start here) So if a technologically advanced alien civilization wanted to off us, we wouldn't even have the benefit of seeing a Death Star or space armada coming. They would just fling a small rock at us at like 95% the speed of light, and we wouldn't even have the slimmest prayer of seeing it before it struck the Earth and wiped out all life. Earth would probably still be there tho, just, no life.

2022.01.20 04:07 Puzzlegeek15 Picker born again

Do you ever feel like you're intermediate to advanced in lockpicking skills, but the seemingly simplest locks trip you up? Like I have picked a medeco with factory pinning before, but almost always struggle on basic disc locks used on storage facilities. I also have a real weakness for half of the Best brand locks I try to pick, yet I have no trouble with most American and Abus locks. It's so strange to feel somewhat advanced in some ways and like a n00b with 0 experience in others. Also, I really suck at taking locks in general. I always prefer to SPP.
You know what's so interesting? I've had a passion for Lockport for over a decade now. I learned to pick locks when I was 15/16 (I'm 26 now). My first lock was a master number 3. My second was a small abus (can't rember the number). I picked these and then got permission from my parents to try to pick the house locks. Lockpicking was just one of my many hobbies.
I kept at it, but not very often. Then, out of nowhere I found an ad on craigslist for a locksmith when I was living on the other side of the country temporarily. You didn't need licensure to be a locksmith in this state, so I just had to prove I could take a lock apart. I had never done it before, but learned very quickly. I got my tools and began my career as a locksmith (almost always rekeying and almost never picking).
I moved back to the state I'm from originally after about 6 months of this and started asking local locksmiths if they'd be willing to hire an apprentice (at this point I had practiced picking again to the point that I could confidentially approach most locks in use by the general population).
I finally had a bite and someone was willing to hire me on as an apprentice locksmith (and I got an apprentice license. I showed my boss how well I could pick locks, and began practicing and challenging myself even more. Any mailbox lock or wafer lock? Not breaking a sweat. All common house locks in the US? Not a problem. Some oddly bitter residential locks? Piece of cake. I picked a smartkey lock. I picked the lock on a 2016 Corolla and a classic Porsche.
I bought a lot of locks in this time to practice and my path was not linear based on what you would think would be the most challenging locks. My first dimple lock was a mulTlock (got it). The first lock I would say was classified as high security was a medeco. I started with one pin to get a feel for what it was like rotating the pins and pushing to the shear line. I worked my way up to 5 pins consistently, and even picked the lock with all pins in it.
I was so good that my boss took notice and even started sending me to commercial lockouts to save the company time and money. All the other locksmiths would damage the hardware to get in and I very rarely had to do that. I picked Kwikset, Yale, Schlage, Dexter, Defiant, Baldwin, and many other well known brands and knockoff brands. Right tolerances, sloppy tolerances. It didn't matter given enough time.
I gained entry into many businesses, and often even if another rmetgod of entry would be quicker, I would take 5-10 minutes to try and pick to lock to get real world practice in. The customers didn't care. To them getting a lock open in 5 minutes was the speed of a god. This experience as a locksmith made me great at what I did. It took my hobby to a new level.
I never knew about the belt ranking in this community, and I never knew that the subreddit existed. I was a part of multiple lockpicking forums back in the day, and I should have stock at clk supplies, sparrows, and peterson. I spent more on locks on eBay than most other hobbies I have ever had.
I gave up locksmithing. I was sick of the blue collar work, odd hours, risk of personal safety, etc. Now I'm a professional penetration tester. I gave up breaking into places physically to break into places using technology. The cool thing is I'm probably going to get to perform physical penetration tests once covid clears up more.
I'm going to get to use these skills again and I'm so excited to sharpen them more!
If you read this far, I thank you. I can't believe I just found this subreddit at almost 2am today for the first time ever. Happy picking everyone!
